This is what I look like when I juggle Part 2

Back in July, my juggling teammate Steve Birmingham and I paid real money to a disappointing video guy to record us doing some of our better tricks. Due to disastrous framing instincts and an apparent spasm in his focus hand, much of the raw material this guy shot that wasn’t already used in the first video was pretty much useless. Important lesson: don’t hire people off Craigslist.

That said, through heroic editing on my part, I was able to piece together this short bit of fun from the scraps. I strongly recommend watching it at 1080p resolution. Enjoy.

This is what I look like when I juggle

Some of you may not know that I have been juggling since I was 12 years old. Still more of you may not know that next summer I will be competing in the International Jugglers’ Association world team championships at the tender age of 44 (roughly twice the age of most of the other competitors).

I’ll be competing with my long-time juggling partner Steve Birmingham and we’ll be showing off the best of our highly ungraceful, sometimes brutal “garbage tricks,” which, despite the name, are incredibly difficult and unpredictable, often leaving so little margin for error that only certifiable lunatics would consider performing them in competition.

That’s about all you need to know.

We made this video a few weeks ago which leans heavily on slow motion effects, partly so people could savor all the nuances of these busy garbage tricks, but also to start scaring the hell out of our potential competition.

Hope you enjoy and please share with all the humans. Thank you.

The Minneapolis Skyway: A Love Story

Anyone who’s every spoken to me for more than seven minutes knows that I reap the same warm, comforting feelings from the Minneapolis Skyway system as most people would experience on a quiet, tropical beach. Moving into a Skyway-connected building instantly transformed my outlook on Minnesota winters – in that winter was no longer my problem.

As such, I hatched this tribute video. [If you can’t see the video, click here]

I had a lot of help making this video. Foremost thanks goes to Kaeti Hinck, who probably spent more time working on this thing than I did, and whose directing, editing and creative input significantly affected its overall awesomeness. Thanks also goes to actors Rachel Hunsinger and Jill Wigert.

I apologize in advance for the length, but not really. I vblog like I write it’s either 2,000 words or nothing at all.
