I'm not gonna lie to you Joanna, racing through IKEA with a clean slate was pretty great. Though when I discovered at check out that I'd almost doubled my unofficial budget, I had a little heart attack. I'm over it though. Wheeee!!

I arrived in Minneapolis 20 years ago with 35 boxes of books, a few boxes of clothes, some old pots and pans from Goodwill, and a computer. Which broke during shipment. So as I was reading your story,I was remembering how I started out here: salvage, Goodwill, hand-me-downs, cheap crap. So the idea of running through Ikea on a mission and starting from scratch is--yeah, a water slide sounds about right!

I have since joined the grown-up economy and now have a mortgage, a car, and have paid off my student loans. I"m saving for someone's college education, which will begin in about 4-5 years. I even have pots and pans that match. But the idea of having to run down the aisles of IKEA with a shopping cart, like one of those game show contestants, sounds fun as hell.

Nayana – IKEA got 2k out of the 6k that was spent that week. For the time and money I spent there, they should have put me up in a penthouse somewhere for the night.

Sleeper – I've already pulled the wedding move. How do you think I ended up with so much crap to sell be for leaving the country?

Joanna – Why do I sometimes get the sense that you're simultaneously zapping down a water slide when you leave comments here?

There is a pretty simple solution to that. It may however be a little distasteful, it is called a wedding. You could always get an actress to play the part and then a fake divorce in a year or so.
